Turret

turret

During Middle Ages, when the town was surrounded by walls, a defence turret was also built in the 15th century, next to St. Lawrence parish church and Catholic cemetery.

Parishioners rebuilt the turret into a bell tower only at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The turret is built of stone and brick in the top part, with plaster. It is square in the lower parts and octagonal, irregular in the upper floors. The entrance is closed by an arch with clinquer door. The roof is polygonal, covered with slate.

The bell tower, situated east from the church has turned grey during many centuries and witnessed destruction of the town. Its shadow falls on the town walls.
